Long before Carron started making sinks they used their expertise to make
cannons. That’s right; the heavy artillery kind used by the army and
navy and featured in Edinburgh Castle for example. In fact the Carron
Company could lay claim to a marketing first: it was the first
organisation worldwide to have its name synonymous with a product, as
Lord Nelson’s flagship HMS Victory, was equipped with “Carronades”.
Later Carron turned its expertise to making Britain’s famous red
telephone boxes and post boxes. In a first entry into the kitchen
industry the Carron brand was associated with top quality cookers
before the introduction of stainless steel kitchen sinks in 1962. The
story has continued from there with Carron Phoenix now being the UK’s
largest dedicated sink producer.
